december happenings

i'm not sure where december went. but it is almost over and i don't like it. since tomorrow is christmas eve, i thought to myself, "i should probably update our blog since christmas is almost here." so here i am. we have been pretty busy this month so our little bloggity blog has been neglected, severely. we went to hawaii for a week and have been working the other days that we weren't there. we've also been getting ready for christmas to arrive. we are excited about the holiday season, of course! there is something about christmas that always makes the winter season so much better and the cold bearable.

we decorated our home and put up our christmas tree. we made our neighbor/friend goodie plates and delivered them. we rode our bikes around and checked out the christmas lights (that was before it got freezing). Believe it or not, at the beginning of december, the weather was so nice. when we got back from hawaii, it was like a switch changed and it's been soooo cold every since! it is december though so i guess its normal haha.

we haven't been able to do everything we've wanted to do this christmas season but we've tried to get the important things in. before we left for hawaii, i made sure to get our christmas tree up and some decorations around the house. since we had such an awesome time last year putting up lights, we decided to bypass it this year. we didn't have the time either (call us scrooges :( i suppose). we live in a great neighborhood and a lot of families put their christmas lights up early this year so quin and i decided it would be fun to ride our bikes around instead of drive to see them all. it hadn't gotten cold yet which made it pretty nice. we also went and looked at lights when we were in hawaii. they decorate a huge park that is around their city hall and we enjoyed looking at all the lights from that. they also have a bunch of trees that city departments decorate, kind of like the jubilee of tree's in st. george, but much smaller.

i also managed to get our neighbor/friend treats out this year before christmas eve. i didn't want to do anything crazy so i went for easy things. each thing i did is simple and quick by itself but put them all together and it took me almost seven hours to get done! by the end of baking everything, i was done and didn't want to look at another chocolate dipped pretzel ever again!! i'm glad we got them out though. i love taking them around and getting see all of our friends and neighbors and wish them a merry christmas.

we also had our first and only snow in st. george! i was at work and it was a slow night, so some of us went outside to enjoy it as it was coming down. it was coming down pretty good! it must have been a slow night because everyone decided to stay indoors, which is good in st. george because we aren't the best snow drivers.

we missed our favorite holiday party this year, the ugly christmas sweater party, that our friends kasia and andy put together. we did, however, make it to my work christmas party. it was pretty fun. we had a group of caroler's come and do a little program for us. they were pretty awesome. i got chosen to go up and help perform jingle bells with some bells. everytime it was my turn to ring my bell, the caroler behind me would hit me on the head with a plastic candy cane. i wasn't the greatest at it and i don't think we sounded like jingle bells at all! it was fun though.

christmas is my favorite time of the year because of the meaning and atmosphere around it. i absolutely love the christmas spirit and everyone just seems a little bet nicer this time of year. we have had a great month to end an awesome year. we are going to hold on to what we have left of it before we get to start all over again with 2013.

i hope everyone enjoys their christmas this year and not take for granted the time we all get to spend with our families. there have been some devastating things that have happened this year and it breaks my heart to know there will be some families that won't get to spend it with some of their loved ones. i think christmas time helps us remember our heavenly father and savior and the sacrifice that was given for us.

merry christmas everyone :)
