the great race

dixie has a great tradition that we have been able to participate in these last couple years. the great race is a huge relay race that is put on during d-week. it seriously is one of the funnest things to participate in! quin and i have never been on the same team but it is always fun to compete against eachother. quin was on one of the ambassador teams and i was on the campus rec team. quin did the swimming and i did the base run. the race goes a little something like this...

1. run: they ran a lap and a half around the track and then ran to the softball field.
2. base run: spin around a bat ten times, run the bases, then run across the parking lot and street.
3. roller blader: roller blade, uphill around campus to the basketball courts.
4. basketball shoot: do twenty push ups then shoot a free throw shot. Run up the hill to the parking lot.
5. biking: bike a mile around campus back to the hansen stadium.
6. questions: run a half lap around the track, answer three questions about dixie, then run up to the swimming pool.
7. swimming: swim up and back in the pool while laying on or in a huge tube then run around the the building to the street.
8. mud pit: run from the pool to the new sand courts, go through the mud pit obstacle course, and then run to the edge of the courts.
9. slide pull: run from the sand courts back to the hansen stadium, slide down a wet tarp, pulling on a rope til you get to the end.
10. sprint: sprint 3/4 of a lap on the track to the finish!

well there ya have it. . .that's the dixie state great race and it is one of the biggest activities on campus. quin's team did really well and even won a medal! they got third. my team did pretty well also considering we put the team together the day of. we ended up getting sixth! there were thirty teams so we are pretty proud of ourselves. maybe one year we'll be on the same team. probably not. hopefully we won't be at dixie forever!
