lawn mowing

i absolutely love to mow the lawn. i love being outside in the sun, getting some exercise, and also accomplishing something like making your lawn look beautiful. i grew up with about a fields length for a lawn so i got used to it pretty fast when i was younger and learned to love it. not to mention the smell of fresh cut grass is great! well since we got married, we've never actually owned a lawn mower. we live in a town home with a teeny tiny back yard with an even smaller grass patch. . .so why own one right? well if we don't mow that dang thing every week, we get a little orange notice on our door saying that "our lawn looks great BUT it needs to be mowed". if we don't mow our little strip of green-ness, we get a big fine of $20 bucks. and we don't want to have to pay such a huge price for such a little task. ahem.

now that it is getting warmer, our grass is growing like crazy! we've already had two orange notices on our door. whoops. well last year at the end of mowing season, our neighbors moved out and gave us their old mower (if you can even call it that. you will see what i mean). yes we are grateful for their hospitality but that dang thing takes an hour to mow our little piece of green.

why yes, yes it does.  

maybe even longer.

here is the beauty that does such a great job at keeping our lawn in ship shape condition so we don't get two orange papers on our doors in one week. . .

isn't she a beauty? this lovely piece of machinery is more like an antique piece of machinery. to get this thing a moving you gotta get a running start! and it only goes about a foot. then back to square one. . .running start. . .cut about a foot of grass. . .running start. . .cut another foot of grass. you get the point. lets take a closer look at this baby's innards.

careful. you could cut yourself on those sharp rusted blades and get tetanus or something. kidding. those blades can barely cut the blades of grass. this beauty has done us good though and i can't complain. although. . .it doesn't get the edges of the yard very well so i have to go at those with some scissors. yep. scissors. they come in handy when you need to clean up those fluffy edges. good thing our yard isn't very big. i think my love for mowing the lawn would fizzle out and die. it hasn't gone away yet so quin is off the hook until that happens!
