the monson's: a century lived

my beautiful, wonderful, amazing, great grandmother just turned one hundred years old on may nineteenth. she seriously is absolutely an amazing woman!! can you imagine living for a hundred years? a whole century?! and to see the world change and evolve. she was born in 1912 (the same year titanic sank) and got married when she was sixteen to my great grandpa. he unfortunately passed away quite some time ago but it's amazing that she is still here with us. she had four kids by the time she was twenty-two, one in which is my grandma.

this past weekend, my grandma, mom, and i were able to travel to omaha, nebraska where she lives and celebrated her one hundredth birthday with her and many other family members. it is always so great to see everyone. we live so far away from most of them so it makes it enjoyable to get together and spend time with them all when we can.

saturday before we went to her party, we walked around the farmers market that they do every saturday downtown. We were lucky enough to stay right in the downtown area so we were pretty close to everything. plus, this area is soooo cute. with cobble stone streets and cute shops that look old. i love old buildings. quin and i actually came here two years ago when we visited my great grandma then. it really is so pretty and it's right next to the river where when you cross over you are in iowa!

later that day we celebrated her birthday at a restaurant called spaghetti works. the food wasn't that great but that wasn't the point. we mostly all just talked and took a thousand pictures and spent time with great grandma. she is adorable. she is a bit blind and hard of hearing but other than that, she is as healthy as a horse. you've got to be if you want to live to be one hundred! i love her so much.

that evening we all went out to dinner to a place that wasn't much better. when we went in to the restaurant, the weather was in the eighties sunshiney. when we walked out an hour later it was pouring rain, thunder, and lightening! welcome to the midwest! we weren't very far away from a funnel cloud either in kansas. i don't think i could ever live in the midwest.

sunday was a day of relaxation. we didn't do too much except walk around downtown, enjoyed a delicious lunch at zio's pizza, and had the yummiest ice cream! it was homemade right in front of you. so good. we definitely ate way too much on this trip even though it was just a short one.

i had so much fun spending time with family and getting to see my great grandma. we don't know how much longer she will be with us so it is always great seeing her every chance we get.
